Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
A collection of essays on the politics of science and technology which discuss the relations between scientific and technical development, the role of social movements in scientific and technical devleopment, the challenge of modern technology to democracy and the emergence of "social intelligence" as a new activity within the world of science and technology policy. The volume also contains a number of contributions to the quantitative study of science and technology. The volume's title reflects the interests of Steven Dedijer, the founder of the Research Policy Institute at the University of Lund in Sweden. He was one of the pioneers, in the early 1960s, in the development of science policy studies and he has, in recent years, been equally pioneering in his work on social intelligence, which he carried out both in Sweden as well as in several developing countries. The essays were written to honour Steven Dedijer on the occasion of his 75th birthday.
